YouTube Music’s new step in competition with Apple Music and Spotify

YouTube Music, which we can call a rising player despite being a well-established company, is taking a very interesting and significant step in digital music publishing, where there is a lot of competition every day. The company announced that the YouTube Music app will be installed in advance on all new devices supported by Android 10 and Android 9,including their Pixel series smartphones. It should be noted that this is a serious move to increase the popularity of the application.

YouTube’s move comes at a time when the company’s music strategy needs change. Music listeners using an Android device will be able to use the YouTube Music app to broadcast their own music and discover new music without having to download it from the app marketplace.

Google manages both YouTube Music, founded in 2015, and Google Play Music, which was founded in 2011, on the digital music platform. Unlike Google Play Music, YouTube Music offered YouTube Red and YouTube Premium features. However, last April, Google confirmed that Google Play Music would be replaced by YouTube Music, announcing that the closure of the Artist Hub was part of a broader strategy for combining the two music services.

However, the YouTube Music app is automatically available on new Android phones, but google play music has not yet been shut down. Instead, the company says listeners for Android 10 devices can continue to use the service by downloading the app directly from the Google Play Store. Those who don’t have a new Android device will be able to download the YouTube Music app from the Google Play Store if they wish.

As a result, it is possible to say that YouTube Music has made a move in terms of contentious digital music publishing that will seriously shake rivals Spotify and Apple Music. However, the platform needs to take more important steps to consolidate its position in this market.
