Turkey’s most influential internet conference, Webrazzi Summit 2019,took place yesterday with an intensive participation. At our conference held in 3 different stages and 5 different halls this year, Gemius Country Manager Idil Kestenwas on stage with the presentation of “Digital Disruption In Media”. Idil Kesten shared with the participants the data that attracted a lot of attention on mobile applications in the focus of Turkey.
According to Gemius, the number of mobile users was 40.5 million in 2016, 52.3 million in 2017 and 56.9 million in 2018, compared to 60.3 million in 2019. This proves that mobile usage increases each year compared to the previous year. 53% of these users are men and 47% are women. The EU user segment is 33%, while the C1 user segment is 31%. The densest age range for mobile use is 42% to 25-44%.
When we look at Turkey ranking in the most widely used mobile applications, we see that the ranking is as follows; WhatsApp, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Google Maps, Messenger, e-Government, Owner, Twitter, Letgo, Garanti BBVA, LinkedIn, TikTok, Building Credit, Turkish Business Bank, Yandex Maps, n11, Trendyol, Ziraat Bank and BiP. Social media applications are the most prominent in the list, while shopping, second-hand trading and mobile applications of banks are also highly available.
We’ve already told you before, but Idil Kesten once again said on stage that WhatsApp has 44 million months of real visitors and 87% of access to the app. One interesting data is the number of users of government-made applications. The total number of real monthly visitors of the e-Government application is 13 million, while 182 – The mobile application of the Central Physician Appointment System is 4.5 million monthly.
When we look at social media, youTube has a total reach of 46 million 898 thousand 267, of which 43 million 327 thousand 339 come from mobile. Likewise, facebook’s total access to 43 million 748 thousand 609 mobile share is 41 million 407 thousand 773. Instagram has a total access of 39,85,494, of which 37,979,978 are from mobile. When we look at the time spent per person in apps, 16 minutes on Facebook on mobile, 21 minutes on PC; We see 22 minutes on Instagram, 10 minutes on PC and 42 minutes on mobile, 11 minutes on PC.
We can say that interesting data has emerged in mobile competition. WhatsApp has 87% access as a messaging app, while BiP has 10% monthly access. Likewise, in digital music publishing, the monthly access to Spotify is 10%, while monthly access to fizy remains at 5%.
Idil Kesten also talks about applications that seize the opportunity in their presentation and increase the number of users by seeing the market deficit. Kesten, who gave the example of Letgo, said that no one would want to go and sell their old stuff at a flea market, and even if he wanted to, it would be very low. However, Letgo, which does the same job from mobile, is currently among the most downloaded applications in Turkey. The app has 12 million real monthly visitors and 24% access. Wardrobe, which does similar work as a clothing focus, has 2.4 million real visitors per month and 5% access.
Kesten’s next examples are really interesting. The “Ezan Time Pro” app has 3.2 million monthly real visitors and 6.3% access. Likewise, Faladdin, a fortune-telling application that is a product of Turkish culture, has 2.6 million real visitors and 5.2% access per month. Another application is TikTok. TikTok, one of the most popular apps of the last period, has 8 million monthly visitors and 15.9%.
Idil Kesten explains that the digital transformation of monitoring is also visibly changing. Even though traditional TV is the most watched by country, YouTube is starting to catch it seriously. Access to traditional TV is 59 million, while access to YouTube is 47 million. Time spent in front of the TV is 214 minutes per person, while the time spent in front of YouTube is 60 minutes.
